Ministry of Industry & Trade, Sierra Leone

The Republic of Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa that is bordered by Guinea to the northeast, Liberia to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest. Sierra Leone is a constitutional republic with a directly elected president and a unicameral legislature. The country has a tropical climate, with a diverse environment ranging from savannah to rainforests. The country covers a total area of 71,740 km2 (27,699 sq mi) and with an estimated population of 6 million (2011 United Nations estimate).

About the Ministry of Trade & Industry
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is one of the core Ministries of the Government of Sierra Leone that is committed to promoting trade as well as developing the growth of industries in the Country.

MANDATE
Develop policies and programes to stimulate local and export trade and enhance private sector investment, industrial and economic growth.

VISION STATEMENT
A private sector-led economy which will ensure that the socio-economic needs of its citizens are met through private sector development, and job and wealth creation.

MISSION
Leading economic development through policy formulation, private sector investment, dialogue facilitation, industrial development and public education

Core Functions of the Ministry of Trade & Industry include:
1. Coordinating and spearheading of implementation of Trade Policy;

2. Providing policy guidance and supervision to affiliated institutions such as the Sierra Leone Import and Export Promotion Agency, Sierra Leone Standards Bureau, Petroleum Unit, Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company, Commodity Market Monitoring Unit, and Cooperative Department for service delivery;

3. Coordinating formulation of Annual Implementation Plans for the Trade Support Program, reflecting appropriate sequencing of the implementation of the Program and ensuring that trade policy remains an integral component of national development plans:
